take time to rest…

Musings…taking…making time to rest is filled with making progress in ways that are healthy and happy. I had to unlearn western-centric behavior that resulted in busyness and being overcommitted. I’m blessed to focus on productivity instead which means I plan my work and work my plan, including making sure I’m getting enough rest…every. single. day. I am eternally grateful to The Creator for giving me the insight and wisdom I need so I’ll know when to take breaks, when to have some fun. It’s August 2021 already! A great time to learn more about self-care and wellness as we move...

making progress is a process…

I remember learning about the tortoise and the hare. There’s a strategy for success in this fable. It involves learning how to be a marathon runner. You must be in it for the long haul. Pace yourself. Remember: Good things come to those who wait. Be patient because it really is a virtue, a strength. Remember: Slow and steady wins the race. Making progress is a process. Here’s the why –> The Tortoise and The Hare The song below is one of my favorites. It’s good for the times I have to dig deeper and remember: Nothing is impossible. We must...

reaching out…asking for help

Reflection ~It’s so important to reach out…to ask for help. I was feeling some kind of way today. Being an activist is hard work and I definitely needed a break so I took it. Glad I did…it was a blessing because I know I’m standing on the shoulders of greatness but I’ve got to take a step back sometimes. Remember who’s really in charge: GOD.  Observation ~Who answered my call for help? The one and only, my amazing, incredible, phenomenal woman, my very own Faith, my daughter. Her wisdom is a balm to my Gilead. Thank YOU, Faith. I needed...

mental health matters…

There’s no shame in mental illness. There is shame in how people are treated. We all need to take better care of ourselves. I’ve been working pretty intensely this week so today I decided enough is enough. It felt good to get out for a while, take in some fresh air, and be around people, especially children. Their innocence must be protected. I’m praying about the ongoing shootings in the USA. Our social and political environments are becoming more toxic and deadly. We all need to take better care of our mental health. This isn’t an individual problem. The system...

we need consistent amounts of sleep

Reflection: I’ve been doing some reading on the connection between high performance and sleep. I confess that I’ve been a high performer on low sleep, but that has to change. The research is clear. We need consistent amounts of sleep. Our temple appreciates being well cared for and there are multiple benefits to re-charging our batteries. Whenever I have an opportunity to take a nap or get at least eight hours of sleep, or sometimes much more, I thank Our Creator, first and foremost. I also thank our ancestors because they didn’t have a choice about when they could rest....
